The objectives of the course are (1) developing projects of urban transformation and regeneration (urban recycling) within the consolidated city; (2) working at the neighborhood scale, with the complexity of social, cultural and economic diversity; (3) learning to recognize the urban heritage and what traces may disappear in the process of transformation (urban recycling); (4) recognize the environmental and landscape values which qualify the existing city; (5) being able to develop methods and strategies to enable citizen participation processes as a working method of urban projects

The course is organized in four major thematic parts:

  1. Complexity of the contemporary city. Urban redesign in existing city.
  2. Urban recycling strategies. Planning for urban development, heritage protection and special planning. The city transformation by the new housing project. Urban project and public space as city category: criteria and tools.
  3. Environment, landscape and garden initiation. The city, urban realm and landscape explained through urban planning and urban project.
